Well I am back

So much has happened in the past three weeks. Bhutan is on the whole beautiful and unspoiled.

I can't do it justice so I wont try.

I loved that for the best part of the trip I saw no cars, pylons or any of the associated paraphernalia of modern living.

I'm currently in the post trip doldrums and do miss the bhutanese guys greatly.

I have to write a report for my funders and anyone who wants to read it please let me know

Suppose I had best get back to it....

Merhaba al,

Glad your trip went well, and i look forward to hearing about it in person. We're in Istanbul - feeling a little trapped! How did u cope! Did u manage to find a way out of the garden on foot? Pete Brownless has e-mailed us an escape route but we haven't had a chance to try it yet. Slowly learning little bits of Turkish, so we can talk to people. Scorching heat last week - 36 C ish!!! Everyone is very nice though. I particularly like Fatima, who is teaching us bits of turkish. Please feel free to give us any hints and tips....!

merhaba! nasil sin?

Eh we only ever used the staff bus to escape to carrefour and then got a taxi back with the cunning use of a googlemap for the drivers. Using yavash (for slow when they got close to the entrance)

I just got back from amsterdam (recovery from bhutan bought 5kg of bulbs from a market frits cyclmen zatedschia and a wierd arum).

Me and Laura coped by gettin drunk in the evenings when we stayed in the garden - every evening.

iyiyim, ya sen?

Yeah, we've found out all about the joys of directing taxi drivers. The guide book for the garden is proving pretty useful, as it has a diagram of which turnoffs to take and where the garden entrance is. But lots still get lost!!

We made it out to Istanbul proper on Saturday and went to visit the Topkapi Palace and the Harem, which was pretty cool. I feel much better now i've actually made it out the garden, although we have located an escape route should we need it!

We're a little shocked about the lack of basic horticultural skills - was it like that when u where here? What did you teach them!!! No-one seems to be able to weed or even pot up a plant right! It's a little disheartening, but hey-ho.

Anyway, hope alls well with you
